NATIVE AMERICA CLOTHING

2nd installment of Kansas City LOVE..

So a few weeks ago when I was SLAMMED in appointments down in the showroom my friend Lisa http://www.myspace.com/djkkkkk stopped by with an entourage including “the multi, yet complex talents” of Miss Ari Fish http://www.arifish.com! Ari and Lisa were dressed in amazing ensembles, which I was informed were Ari’s creations. Her line, based in Kansas City, MO is currently known as NATIVE AMERICA CLOTHING. GET INTO ARI FISH!

NATIVE AMERICA CLOTHING is a label founded by Ari Fish in 2007. Formerly known as MADE IN AMERICA, NATIVE AMERICA CLOTHING is an ever changing, ever naming clothing company that is influenced by ideas of self-worship and autonomy. Though known for its hyper structural and utilitarian menswear collections, NAC has evolved into designing womenswear and androgenous-wear as well. Look for NAC's Winter 09/ Spring 10 collection out June 09.

Kansas City, Missouri native, Ari Fish, aged 25, studied painting and ceramics at the Kansas City Art Institute and Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver. Her drawings and ceramics have been exhibited in Tokyo, Miami, St. Louis, Vancouver, and Kansas City. In 2007, she decided to switch mediums, and give clothing design a try. Following a successful menswear collection, she has been designing ever since. She founded the label, MADE IN AMERICA, a brand whose name is in a constant state of flux so as the clothing may never pledge allegiance to a name, only unto itself, fulfilling the self-worshipping and autonomous mantra of the label.

INSPIRATION- JUBILEE

Neon Music introduced me to Jubilee years ago...amazing music, cast and clothes.

Here's allmovie.com's recap:

Steeped in the nihilistic philosophy and rebellious fashions of the British punk movement, this early feature by experimental filmmaker Derek Jarman presents an unusual look at late 1970s London. The bulk of Jubilee focuses on a loosely connected group of female outcasts, united by a hatred of convention that at times extends into dark violence. Providing contrast is the film's framing story, in which Queen Elizabeth I travels forward in time to view the future of England and finds unexpected sympathy with the female rebels. The film references both William Shakespeare and Siouxsie and the Banshees, and it alternates scenes of transgressive violence with heady discussions of English history. The film's casting alone makes it an intriguing artifact of its time, showcasing subcultural icons from musician Adam Ant to several cast members of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

It's a real gem!

MAIN MAN

PhotobucketI'm sure all the homos have checked out Mr. Krelenstein and Mr. McGinley's new party, but if not...get to it!

Hello Fellow Gay Friends and Friends of Gay Friends

Ryan McGinley and I are doing a new gay party for gays on Thursday nights at B.East.

Did I mention it's gay? Well it is. It's a gay party for gays
who hate gay parties. That means: no techno or house music, no
abercrombie, no drag, no dark bars, but lots of T. Rex and other rock n' roll. Think Squeezebox in the 90s, but with a touch of class and maybe some Belle and Sebastian for the sensitive boys.

You know how you go to like, Smiths Night or Beatrice and there's all these cute guys there but they're all straight...

This party is for dancing and hanging out, and being gay.
You can even get dinner there before hand. See you there!

Ryan and Greg

b.east
171 east broadway at rutgers
thursdays, 10pm-4am

The musical vibe will be something like...

Bowie, Smiths, Clash, Sonic Youth, Velvet, Iggy, Patti, Ramones, Cocteau Twins, Supremes, Hendrix, Pavement, James Brown, Fleetwood, Stones, Roxy Music, Talking Heads, Echo & The Bunnymen, Cure, Stevie
Wonder, etc...

healthy dinner served from 9-11pm
